About Perugia & Umbria Guide

A small, independent editorial team writing about Perugia, Assisi and the rest of Umbria for travellers. Here is how the guide is made, how it earns money, and what to do when we get something wrong.

What we publish

Practical travel guides to Perugia and Assisi, to Umbria's hill towns and Lake Trasimeno, to the region's food, wine and festivals, and to planning a trip: itineraries, farm stays and walking routes. Everything appears in English and German.

Independent, and not an official site

This is not an official tourism website. We have no connection to the City of Perugia, the Region of Umbria, any other public body, the European Union, or the festivals and venues we write about. Until 2014 this web address was used for the city's former bid to become a European Capital of Culture, and later by unrelated third parties. This guide has no link to either.

How we work

  • Sources first. Official pages of museums, churches, transport operators, festivals and local authorities, and the providers' own information. Where we describe experience rather than rules, we say so.
  • Dated facts. Opening hours, timetables and prices change. Time-sensitive details carry the month they were checked, and you should confirm them before you travel.
  • No invented reviews. We do not publish star ratings, invented visits or made-up quotes. Recommendations explain what they are based on.
  • Corrections. Substantiated errors get fixed. Significant changes are noted on the page.

How the site is funded

Perugia & Umbria Guide is a commercial publication. It may be funded by advertising and by partner links to booking sites for accommodation, tours, rental cars and trains. If you book something after following a partner link, we may receive a commission; the price is the same for you either way. Partner links are marked.

No hotel, tour operator or booking site pays for a mention, a position or a verdict, and none sees an article before it is published.

Who writes this

The guide is written and edited by a small team rather than by named individual authors, and we do not attach personal bylines or invented credentials to the pages. Editorial responsibility sits with the operator named in the imprint.
